Tomorrow, baby boomers in the United States will be celebrating a birthday that includes parades, ice cream and fireworks. Whose birthday is it? Along with the rest of the population, we’ll be celebrating Independence Day, the birth of our country.
If you’re in Greer, Arizona, attend the bell ringing at 10:30 am but be sure to stay for the barbecue. The folks in Crested Butte, Colorado, are celebrating with a pancake breakfast. And, if you’re lucky enough to be in Ouray, Colorado, join the firefighters on Main Street as they stage a water fight with their huge water hoses. Be ready to get wet!
I’d love to be in New York City watching the fireworks light up the sky over the Statue of Liberty or in Boston to listen to the Boston Pops Orchestra play the 1812 Overture as the pyrotechnic show colors the harbor area. In Oro Valley, Arizona, families will spread blankets on the ground at Riverfront Park. While the children dance, adults will listen to a variety of music before the firework show begins.
Alan and I have just completed a tour of Arizona and Colorado. We’ll be celebrating the 4th by appreciating the beauty of the land that we saw and remembering the people that we met along the way.
