The sun is shining and the birds seem to be twittering, “It’s time for a Spring Break.” College students head to sun-baked beaches while families take time out for a spring adventure at Disney or perhaps one last skiing trip. Baby boomers don’t want to be left out. So where do we travel on spring break?
When I think of traveling in the spring, a trip to the beach comes to my mind. But not a crowded one. I’m talking miles of sandy beach on a quiet island like Kiawah in South Carolina. A cruise through the Panama Canal with stops at beaches in Key West, Costa Rica and Mexico also makes for a sunny break. Or how about Alan’s all-time favorite, French Polynesia?
If you’re craving adventure after a winter spent indoors, then take a trip to the Southwestern U.S. before the weather heats up. Spring is the perfect time to go exploring near Monument Valley. And you’ll be close enough to check out Arizona’s slot canyons before monsoon season arrives. How about a spring trip to Moab, Utah where you can visit two national parks, Arches National Park and Canyonlands, before the crowds come?
Alan and I couldn’t decide between Hawaii and Utah so we’ll be taking two spring breaks. First, we’ll be looking for off-the-beaten path adventures on the Big Island and Molokai while staying at a couple of unique-looking bed and breakfasts. Then, we’ll head out on one of our famous road trips to explore the Escalante region of Utah as we make our way toward Eugene, Oregon for a family visit. Stay tuned because I’ll be reporting back with the details that will help you plan your next adventure.
Baby boomers, share your favorite spring break spot with me. Maybe I’ll try it out next year.
