Why am I going to Chicago? It’s time for me to learn more about blogging. So, I’m attending the BlogHer conference, along with more than 1500 other bloggers, mainly women. The majority of the crowd will be younger, mommy-types sprinkled with a smaller segment of baby boomer gals, and a few men.
I’ll be attending two days of sessions this Friday and Saturday on the business of blogging. But it’s the Geek Lab where you’ll probably find me learning more about WordPress, SEO and PHP. I know, to a baby boomer traveler that sounds like a foreign language. It does to me, too, but not for long.
Several of my internet blogging friends will be leading sessions. I’m looking forward to listening to Jen Miner of Traveling Mamas talk about “Growing Your Blog,” as well as a terrific travel panel including Nancy Brown from What A Trip and Pam Mandel of Nerd’s Eye View.
But the fun doesn’t end on Saturday night. Sunday finds me at Travel Blog Exchange hosted by Kim Mance of Galavanting and Debbie Dubrow from Delicious Baby. This meet-up is all about travel bloggers, including any type of travel you might imagine. I’m really excited about this one. Travel experts Chris Elliott (you might have read his travel advice at MSN.com or in National Geographic Traveler), Wendy Perrin from Condé Nast Traveler, plus several travel PR experts will be sharing their knowledge. And, photographer Peter West Carey, is offering free headshots so you might even see a new photo of me.
Are you a blogger who’s attending BlogHer or Travel Blog Exchange? Send me an email or DM me on Twitter to plan a meet-up. All of those bloggers and I’ve never met a single one in person. New experiences make you grow, right? That’s how baby boomers stay young.
