Let's keep it green

Are you interested in traveling responsibly? On Earth Day 2009, I wrote about Traveling Green, listing resources to help baby boomer travelers make their trip a greener one. And, I’ve told you about eco-friendly lodging choices in Utah and Hawaii as well as locally-sourced dining.

Meet John Van Kirk, The Travel Answer Man. He has published a comprehensive list of green travel resources, categorizing them into Organizations and Associations, Travel Booking, Blogs, Information and Guides, plus Volunteering. I’ll be taking a look at the list during my travel planning. What about you?

Do you have tips for traveling the green way? Post a comment to share. I won’t stop traveling but I will do it as responsibly as I can. And remember, living responsibly at home makes the biggest difference to our planet. Sorry for the nag, but I had to do it.

I'm currently house-sitting and the owner has taught me how to compost...so even though I'm not traveling right now - I'm house-sitting greenly!

I would say Go for Green. As a traveler we must know how to take care of our nature and be a responsible too. For us to enjoy the stunning beauty of nature, we ourselves need to do something to preserve the nature. I admire those people who are giving time and giving information on how to become a responsible traveler.

My tip is to travel light. More economical on fuel and on price if you travel with an airline that charges for check-in luggage. Also it forces you to carry less stuff, buy less stuff, be tempted to buy less stuff that you don't need. And if you're going somewhere where poverty is an issue, pack a few things you don't need or want that you can give away and replace them with small souvenirs that you buy locally to give as birthday and Christmas gifts, thus putting money into the local economy.
  • Donna,

Thanks for sharing how and why we must all be responsible travelers. I have a passion for eco-tourism and traveling green! Here are my tips on my blog post from April 2009...
