Italy Here We come

What’s happening at My Itchy Travel Feet in October? Another baby boomer adventure, of course.

Alan and I will be flying to Milan for the beginning of a Northern Italian boomer road trip booked through A La Carte Italy Tours to explore Milan, the Lake Region, Parma and Tuscany. We’ll be sharing a van and driver/guide with our friends, Jack and Sue. On the way, we’ll be admiring mountain scenery, sampling Parmesan cheese at a local factory, walking along a portion of Le Cinque Terre and tasting plenty of great Italian food. Of course we’ll be using our handy Approach Guides Wine app to research the perfect Italian wine. And the biggest news of all? Alan and Jack will be test driving a Ferrari. You should see the grin on their boomer faces. Let’s hope my video skills are up to recording this adventure.

To keep baby boomer readers informed, I’ll be writing about our experience with Italy A La Carte as well as lodging reviews that include Hotel Britannia Excelsior, Hotel La Tavola Rotonda, Hotel Ilaria Residenza delll’Alba and Sovana Hotel and Relais.

The boomer road trip ends at Civitaveccha, the port for Rome, where we’ll board the Sojourn, one of the newest Yachts of Seabourn ships, for a 21-day cruise from Rome to Ft Lauderdale. Many of our boomer readers know that Alan and I are experienced Regent cruisers (over 200 days). We thought it was time to add more perspective to our cruise reporting so be looking for a review on this Seabourn experience when we return. I’ll also be writing about port adventures that will take us to Lucca, Eze and Villa Rothschild, Aix-En-Provence, Barcelona’s Public Markets, the Village of Mijas, Gibraltar, a private trolley ride in Lisbon and a 4 x 4 adventure in Funchal, Madeira.

Of course it will take a month or two for posts to start showing up here about our trip. If you’d like to keep up with us while we’re on the road, check out the My Itchy Travel Feet page on Facebook for photos and snippets about our adventure. Be sure to click the Like button while you’re there.

While on the road, I’ll be trying out one of the new Briggs & Riley [amazonify]B003VTZ8TU::text::::20″ wide body carry-on’s[/amazonify] (bag provided by Briggs & Riley). Look for my report in early November.

And, when Alan and I return home, I’ll be using a $75 gift certificate provided by KODAK Gallery to create a memory photo book about our trip. I’ll be writing a review of my experience in November with a chance for one of our readers to win their own $75 gift certificate to KODAK Gallery.

Well, I can’t rush off to Italy without seeking advice from fellow travelers and guest bloggers. On October 14, 2010, Andrew Dunkle of Go!Overseas will be telling our boomer readers about an off-the-beaten path adventure in Northern Italy. And these days, who doesn’t think of [amazonify]B00427X9WI::text::::Eat Pray Love[/amazonify] (the movie or book, take your pick) when a trip to Italy is mentioned? Barbara Singer, author of [amazonify]0984325409::text::::Living Without Reservations[/amazonify], will be advising baby boomers on how to travel the Eat Pray Love way. Look for Barbara’s inspiring post on October 26, 2010.

Do you have any advice for us as we depart for Northern Italy? Any experienced Seabourn cruisers want to give us tips for making the most of our cruise? Post a comment to share your Italian or Seabourn travel knowledge. We’re all ears.

Disclosure: Although this is not a comped trip (we’re paying for it ourselves), Briggs and Riley has provided a wide body carry-on for my review. Kodak Gallery has offered a $75 gift certificate so that I can report back on creating a memory book. I have included an Amazon link to Briggs & Riley carry-on, Eat Pray Love DVD and Living Without Reservations for your convenience. However My Itchy Travel Feet does receive a small percentage for purchases made at Amazon.com.
