The Venice of Texas — that’s my nickname for San Antonio. I’ll never forget our short visit on a boomer road trip from Tucson to Atlanta, which happened a few years before the birth of My Itchy Travel Feet — the reason you never read about it here.
After touring the Alamo, Alan and I walked through the Menger Hotel, regretting that we hadn’t made a reservation at the historic property. Later, a boat ride introduced us to the canals along the River Walk, which is where I gave San Antonio its nickname. All that was missing were clothes dangling from the balconies and a dashing gondolier — like the one from our Venice gondola ride.
The one-day visit to San Antonio ended with prickly pear margaritas and guacamole for two prepared right at our table on the patio at Boudro’s. As the waiter diced the avocado and roasted the tomato for the guacamole, jazz music floated up the canal from the Riverwalk Jazz show, a live radio show broadcast throughout the nation. I wondered if my dad was listening on WABE FM radio back in Atlanta — his usual Saturday night entertainment.
Of course we vowed to return for a more in-depth boomer visit.

I would love to win a trip to San Antoino. I have been laid off for over a year, so I decided to farther my education and take college classes. I also keep my 2 yr. Old granddaughter every day…I feel as though I haven’t had a day out in over 2 years, much less a vacation. To win this trip would be like a graduation gift for me…I graduate in Sept. With a possible 3.8 GPA!! Thank you, Linda Smith. llrs37@hotmail.com
I took my children on our first ever family vacation to visit sa antonio in March 2011. My oldest is sixteen, my youngest eight, so this vacation was far overdue. We had the time of our lives. My children have not stopped asking me when we are going back, i’d love to take them again, but being a single mom responsibility always comes first. Winning a trip would be a dream come true.. I’ll say a little prayer as I post this.
Not sure my email came through..
I would love to be able to visit San Antonio again with my husband. We have been married 20 years and that is where we went on our honeymoon. I would love to relive our honeymoon with the great food, boat ride, tour and the horse and buggy ride he surprised me with on a cool November evening. What a great place for anyone to visit.
I would love to take my family of four on a vaction before school starts. We love the outdoors and have never been to the ranch or museum. Sounds like a lot of fun. jasdfrog@yahoo.com

Wow! Having a giveaway sure generates a lot of comments! San Antonio’s been on my bucket list for a while. The outcome of the Mexican-American War and the Treaty of Guadalupe Hildalgo sure shaped Nm where I live. Would love to visit the Alamo (was also a BIG Davy Crockett fan. The River Walk also interests me and I know there’s lots more. Would love to blog about it.
Was sationed in S.A. in the early 80′s while in the Air Force. Would love to visit again.
I would love to visit and see the many attractions there. Also have friends living there too.

I’ve been to San Antonio, but I didn’t experience it as described in this post. I’d love to, not only because of this post but because I have friends from Germany who live there now. And I LOVE TexMex food.
