Boomer travelers to Bergamo, Italy, will discover a Medieval skyline filled with clock towers and rotundas. I took this photo from La Rocca, the fortress that overlooks the old city, or Città Alta, during our Northern Italian road trip with Claudio Fontana of A La Carte Italy Tours. Unfortunately, we didn’t climb any of the towers during our visit. Next time, we’ll navigate the steps of Torre Civica (Civic Tower) and the tower at La Rocca.
Have you visited Bergamo, Italy? Did you climb any of the towers? Post a comment to tell us about it. Alan and I would love to return to this off-the-beaten-path city near Milan, Italy.
Visit the My Itchy Travel Feet page on Facebook to see more of our photos from Bergamo. Hope you’ll like us while you’re there.

Isn’t there something about all those towers being a competion to see who could build the tallest and most impressive to show your status – my bell tower’s bigger than your bell tower kind of machismo

I believe that you are right, Heather. It seems that most of the monuments in our world, including clock towers, are a testament to someone’s power.
