Big Mountain waits for us in Whitefish, Montana

2012/09/09by Donna Hull

Big Mountain, Whitefish, Montana

The late afternoon sun bathes Big Mountain in a golden light as storm clouds begin to drift over Whitefish Mountain Resort in Northwestern Montana. Tomorrow is the beginning of our Road Scholar hiking program in Glacier National Park. But, first, we’ll get our itchy travel feet wet (hopefully not literally) hiking Big Mountain on the Danny On Trail (7.6 miles round trip). Check back tomorrow for a scenic photo of the Flathead Valley from the top of Big Mountain. We’re keeping our fingers crossed that tonight’s winds blow smoke from forest fires out of the area so that a stellar view rewards us for all that uphill hiking.

Have you hiked to the top of Big Mountain? Post a comment to tell us about it. Alan and I can’t wait to get started.

Disclosure: Road Scholar has provided this travel experience, but the opinions are our own.
