Passports with Purpose

We think Passports with Purpose and Therafit shoes are a winning combination

December is one of my favorite months of the year. Not only do I enjoy all of the holiday happenings but it’s also the time of year when the travel blogging community works together to make good things happen. It’s called Passports with Purpose. In the last several years, we’ve accomplished some impressive deeds including building a library in Zambia, providing a school in rural Cambodia and constructing housing for 25 families in Southern India. This year’s goal is no less worthy. We’re raising funds to build five wells in Haiti through the auspices of Water.org.

Clean, available water—we take it for granted. Although I’ve lived in the desert Southwest (and also in Montana) where water is precious requiring conservation efforts so that there’s enough to go around, I’ve never been without water. But those who don’t have ready access to clean water like half the population in Haiti must suffer the fallout from dirty water and poor hygiene practicesOn a daily basis, they deal with illnesses that are a direct result of no properly functioning water treatment facilities and non-existant sanitation services. The problem is much more than a glass full of clean drinking water.

So what does this have to do with you? Passports with Purpose is hosting a drawing from Nov. 28 to Dec. 11, 2012 to raise $100,000 to build five wells in Haiti. Members of the travel blogging community have partnered with businesses to provided prizes—and wait until you see the variety of prize offerings—there’s something for every travel interest. Your job is to to visit the Passports with Purpose site to browse the prizes. A $10 donation enters you in the prize drawing of your choice, but I’m hoping you’ll find several prizes to bid on. Remember that every cent goes to build those wells in Haiti.

And this is where Therafit shoes enters the picture. The philanthropic shoe company has teamed up with My Itchy Travel Feet to offer a pair of Therafit shoes as one of the prizes at Passports with Purpose. And who wouldn’t want to win a pair of these snazzy looking shoes with a patented technology that provides cushioning and support  to reduce the aches and pains that come from the stress of everyday activities? After all, they were designed by Dr. Lisa Masterson. You might recognize here from the Emmy award-winning television show, The Doctors.

I’m proud to be associated with a company that lists Comfort, Customer, Charity and Community as key business principles. Alan and I thank Therafit for partnering with us. Now it’s your turn. Click on over to make your donation by bidding on our Therafit shoe prize (available for U.S. domestic shipping only) or one of the many other travel offerings. Passports with Purpose and Therafit shoes — we think they make a winning combination.

Passports with Purpose wouldn’t be possible without support from sponsors that include: Expedia, Tripit, TBEXTravellerspointHomeAway, Go With Oh and Hostelbookers or the hard work of four Seattle travel bloggers: Debbie DubrowPam MandelBeth Whitman and Michelle Duffy.

I’m proud to participate in Passports with Purpose. The charities are checked out and I know my money is going for good work that’s sorely needed in third world countries.

I’ve made my contribution, oohed and ahhhed over the prizes and wrote a post on my blog to urge Boomeresque readers to also participate in this worthy cause. (And did we mention, your contribution is tax deductible in the United States.)
