Help Passports with Purpose Build Schools in Mali and Win a Two-Night Stay at Seattle’s Pan Pacific Hotel

2013/11/25by Nicole

Have you ever taken a moment to think how your life would be different if you have never received an education? And I’m not talking about college here or extracurricular studies. I’m talking about living a life without a basic level of education. Think about where you would be right now without the ability to read or write or communicate with the rest of the world due to your debilitating illiteracy.

Hard to imagine isn’t it?

Well, unfortunately, as most of us know, there are some parts of the world still struggling to provide a basic education for their population, both young and old. Things that seem so common to you and I such as pencils, paper, books, etc. don’t always fall into the hands of those who really need them. Nor do schools, desks, chairs, blackboards, teachers, etc.

This is why My Itchy Travel Feet is supporting the 2013 Passports with Purpose goal of raising $115,000 for the Mali-based program, buildOn, whose mission is ” to break the cycle of poverty, illiteracy and low expectations through service and education.” With the money raised from this year’s Passports with Purpose, organizers will be able to build three schools and fund three adult literacy programs in the Sikasso region of southern Mali, Africa. Learn more about this year’s project.

My Itchy Travel Feet’s 2013 Prize

This year, My Itchy Travel Feet is very proud to be working with the luxurious Pan Pacific Hotel Seattle, who has offered a two night stay* in their incredible Space Needle Suite with breakfast for two and complimentary valet parking. That’s right: for a simple donation of just $10.00, you could spend a fabulous weekend in Seattle at a four star hotel with amazing views!

How does it work? Passports with Purpose will host a drawing from November 25th until December 9th, 2013. With a bid of just $10.00, you could win the My Itchy Travel Feet Prize or any number of fantastic prizes offered this year. Members of the travel blogging community have solicited or provided prizes with a value of $100 or more. Take a look at this year’s prize catalogue — there’s something for every travel interest!

Your job is to visit the Passports with Purpose site to browse the prizes. For each $10 in donations that you make to Buildon, you will will be entered to win a prize (or prizes) of your choice. Once again, the fundraiser begins on November 25, 2013 at 11:59pm EST and end on December 9, 2013 at 11:59pm EST. All proceeds go directly to Buildon for the construction of  three primary schools and fund three Adult Literacy Programs in the Sikasso Region of Mali, Africa.

Of course, everyone’s support in the Passports with Purpose process is incredibly appreciated. Last year, there were almost 200 participating bloggers that contributed to the 2012 campaign. Additionally, there is a lot of support from major sponsors, which makes the event possible every year. These companies deserve a big old round of applause: ExpediaDK Eyewitness Guides, Rough Guides, TBEX, HomeAwayHostelBookersGo With Oh and Eating London .

A huge thanks to Pan Pacific Hotel Seattle for offering a prize for My Itchy Travel Feet to host!

*Not valid on peak periods or holidays. Expires 12/31/2014. Must have gift certificate to check in.

I feel a little left out. I’ve been doing the whole travel blog bit for about 2 years now and never heard of this. I’m definitely going to have to make this a priority next year.

I have made a handful of bids/donations, including one to yours just for support (I have no desire to go to Washington).

Good luck and thanks for all that you’re doing!
