My Itchy Travel Feet is all about inspiring boomers to travel. Writing the words that you read here, and sharing Alan’s photos, allows me to relive those travel moments. But now I’ve discovered another way to inspire travel and provide health benefits at the same time: Coloring the West, An Adult Coloring Book for Travelers.

Coloring the West, An Adult Coloring Book for Travelers, provides 35 pages of Western landscapes, buildings and wildlife to color. Great for relaxing and relieving stress.

With the help of designer, Carey Ruhl, I’ve turned our favorite Western travel photos (yes, some of them are mine) into black and white sketches that are suitable for coloring. Coloring the West includes 35 pages to evoke memories of Western adventures or to inspire that next trip. But there’s so much more to adult coloring books.

On a recent trip to Triple Creek Ranch, I sat down with my friend, Sue, to color some of the pages in Coloring the West. After finishing a page, I felt relaxed and refreshed.

While researching the hot trend of adult coloring books, I discovered that there is definitely a healthy component to the hobby. USA Today reports that coloring relieves stress and produces a meditative state. And a Fox News article explains that coloring “trains the brain to focus.” From my first-hand experience, I’ve learned that coloring travel photos brings back memories that make me smile.

Coloring the West, An Adult Coloring Book for Travelers, includes our favorite travel scenes in Colorado, Utah, Arizona and Montana. You’ll find scenic landscapes, historical buildings, wildlife and nature close-ups to color. It’s so much fun coloring the Grand Canyon, Monument Valley or a moose from Glacier National Park. Whether you enjoy shading, detailed coloring or simply having fun with colors, you’ll find relaxation within our coloring pages. There’s also a coloring guide in the back of the book for guidance or color the West the way you’d like to see it.

Of course you’ll need a few supplies besides a coloring book. I recommend Prismacolor Premier Soft Core Colored Pencils, a sharpener and a blender pencil.
