News for the Week

On an Alaska Highway road trip, Dawson City offers access to the Top of the World Highway plus Yukon gold mining history.

We visited Dawson City in the Yukon Territory on a road trip on the Klondike Highway.

From Donna:

What is it about summer that makes us want to get out and go? It’s only a matter of time before Alan and I take a spur-of-the-moment boomer road trip. When we do, we’ll be using Along the Way, one of our favorite road trip apps for discovering scenic attractions, gas stations, even car repair shops along our route.

The 6-mile-round trip hike to Glenn Lake in the Selway-Bitterroot Wilderness is nothing short of awesome!

Glenn Lake in the Selway-Bitterroot Wilderness

Our hike for the week just may be my new Bitterroot Valley favorite. And the 10-mile drive on a mountainous forest road  to reach the trailhead adds to the fun. The 6-mile-round-trip Glenn Lake Trail travels through a burn area that’s bursting back to life with wildflowers, young trees and remote views into the Selway-Bitterroot Wilderness. The 6,000 ft. elevation, increasing to 7,000 ft, gave my heart and lungs a workout. Let’s just say I took many rest stops. Of course Alan bounded along the trail like it was nothing. But we both had fun sharing the experience despite our fitness differences and that’s what counts.

Always Hungry update: Week 3 of Phase 1 resulted in stagnant weight loss but a small decrease in body fat percentage. I’m counting it as a NSV (non scale victory) because that  means my body is losing fat rather than water or muscle.

Learning when to stop eating is one of the goals of this program. So often we rely on portion control or counting calories. On the Always Hungry program, I’m learning to stop eating when my stomach is 80% full. It’s taking time to gain the body awareness to know when I’m approaching full. But what a great tool for avoiding over eating. Thanks for letting me stay accountable by reporting my progress here. If you have questions, send me an email.
