News for the Week

Planning a trip to Montana? Include a ghost town in your itinerary with a visit to Bannack State Park.

From Donna:

Alan and I have always enjoyed the times our cruises have called on Barcelona. It’s such a lovely city. The terrorism attack that targeted tourists in La Rambla this week  is tragic. How many of us have walked that promenade while exploring Barcelona? We’re so sorry for the loss of life and those who are injured. But it’s an important reminder that we should always be prepared. A while back, I shared tips on how to travel safely during a crisis. This is a good time for all of us to review and prepare—just in case.

The fires in our valley are getting worse, not better, so no hiking report for this week. Alan and I are keeping the folks affected by the Lolo Peak Fire in our thoughts and prayers. Although about 20 miles away, we can see the flames from our house. Two homes have been lost as I write this. And the fire danger will increase over the weekend.

Always Hungry update: This week’s NSV (non scale victory), I’m learning to be more mindful when I eat. If you’re like me, you grew up cleaning your plate. As adults we measure food by portions. And as a dieter I previously measured intake by calories. But the Always Hungry plan doesn’t count calories or portions. Instead, I eat until 80% full, which means paying attention at meals and stoping before that “too full” feeling. It’s a concept that I’m still working on. Thanks for letting me stay accountable by reporting my progress here. If you have questions, send me an email.

From Nicole:
