select-registry-distinguished-inn-north-americaAre you a baby boomer who enjoys staying at bed and breakfasts or inns during your travels? Wouldn’t it be nice if there was a book (or website) listing the best choices in North America? Well, there is.

Select Registry, Distinguished Inns of North America, publishes a book and website filled with top quality lodging selections. Alan and I consulted both when planning our recent coastal California sports car road trip and again on a trip to Hot Springs, Arkansas. We found consistent quality at all of our Select Registry lodging choices, including:

Mill Rose Inn, Half Moon Bay, CA
  • friendly innkeepers
  • personalized customer service
  • quality bath amenities
  • luxury bed linens
  • plush robes and slippers
  • delicious breakfasts
  • afternoon snacks and wine

Alan and I appreciated the uniqueness of each Select Registry property. A lush garden setting complements the all-encompassing service at Mill Rose Inn in Half Moon Bay, California. Gangster history permeates the public rooms of romantic Hilltop Manor Bed & Breakfast, where breakfast on the front porch is a delightful start to a Hot Springs, Arkansas morning. On the Mendocino coast of California, Sea Rock Inn is a sanctuary overlooking the ocean complete with fireplaces and sea views.

When baby boomers see the Select Registry seal at an inn or bed and breakfast, they’re assured of a quality lodging experience. The organization conducts independent inspections (not Select Registry employees) to make sure that the nearly 400 participating inns meet these standards:

  • The property must be fully licensed according to national, regional, and local governmental requirements.
  • Breakfast must be offered on the premises.
  • Each guestroom or suite must have a private bath.
  • If the evening meal is not provided on the premises, fine dining or quality regional dining must be readily available in the area.
  • The property should have been in operation for a minimum of two years at the time of application (one year of operation if the owner/operator is a previous SR innkeeper).
  • The owner/operator or innkeeper should have at least three years of documented lodging management experience.

Disclosure: Select Registry, Distinguished Inns of North America, provided complementary lodging when we stayed at Mill Rose Inn, Sea Rock Inn and Hilltop Manor.
