Do you pack ahead? Alan and I think setting a date for having all of our bags packed, especially on a big trip, is important because the packing never goes quite right. This week, we’ve been packing for our Seabourn South America/Antarctica cruise with a Thursday “be all packed” deadline, which was moved to Friday, then Saturday and now Sunday. It’s a good thing we still have several days before the plane leaves for Santiago.
Our intentions were to check a large rolling duffle bag and a large suitcase. But we were going to share a carryon, since Alan’s backpack will be overloaded with camera gear. Well, we just weighed the checked luggage and one is overweight. So I’ll spend tomorrow regrouping. And adding back the eliminated carryon. It’s all that Antartica paraphernalia. Oh, and a couple of items I bought at Chico’s (smile).
And here are two of my favorite packing tips (especially for cruises):
- As you pack, write down everything you are placing in the suitcase. That way, if luggage is lost, you’ll know what’s missing.
- And be sure to cross-pack if you are traveling with another person making sure that a variety of items (dressy and everyday clothes) are in each bag.
Check back next week when I’ll be sharing our Seabourn itinerary. We’re going to Antarctica!
