Did you know that February is a good time to purchase a cruise? Actually, January to March is known as Wave Season in the cruise industry. It’s when cruise lines offer incentives like cabin upgrades, extra onboard credit or flight deals (sometimes free economy) with cruise bookings. You won’t find bargain basement prices—those are saved for last-minute deals—but you will find increased value. For instance:
- Seabourn’s Signature Savings Event offers cabin upgrades, shipboard credit and flight incentives, depending on the voyage. (We just booked with them for spring 2018.)
- Exclusive offers on Silversea include 10% discount if you pay in full by Feb. 28, 2017 (better hurry on that one and don’t forget to purchase cancellation insurance), free economy airfare to select Mediterranean cruises and an especially good all-inclusive package for an expedition cruise in Antarctica.
- AmaWaterways is waving single supplements on select river cruises.
So check with your favorite cruise line to see what savings are on offer. And, remember, to get your preferred cabin location, it pays to book ahead.

There’s nothing quite like strolling around the grounds of a centuries-old castle like the Schwerin Castle above. And no matter how crowded and touristy it gets, I don’t care what they say – a gondola ride in Venice is always a good bet. If you’re looking to plan your next romantic getaway, take a look at some of our most memorable trips to Europe for some inspiration!
