Over the Easter Holiday, I visited the Iruelas Valley Nature Reserve, just about a 2 hour drive west of Madrid. Although I didn’t expect much more than a large park, it turned out to be one of the most beautiful places I’ve ever seen in Spain!

From Donna:

Wow, where did this week go? It’s been a busy writing week for me. Be looking soon for an article on Montana summer road trips and another one featuring Road Scholar’s Adventures Afloat program. But, first, I must finish them so see you next week.

When I need a break from writing, Alan and I take a walk on the beach. I found this huge agate this week. What a find!

From Nicole:

And, just like that, I’m back! I hope you all had a nice Easter holiday. Last week, we headed out to a nature reserve called the Iruelas Valley, which was shockingly beautiful, especially considering I had never even heard of this place! Just two hours to the west of Madrid, the valley is part of the Gredos mountain range.

In addition to a massive reservoir where you can kayak, sail, fish etc., there are tons of walking paths, which are well marked and range in difficulty. We took the “botanical route” that was lined with little plaques detailing the trees and wildflowers and natural greenery found along the path. At the end was a beautiful river with various waterfalls. So peaceful! I’m going to have to add this place to my recommendations of Where to go in Spain.
