Welcome to this edition of News for the Week—a look at boomer travel ideas, news and deals.
And we’re back in Montana. For two days, Alan and I drove secondary roads from the Oregon Coast to the Bitterroot Valley—outstanding scenery, little traffic and plenty to explore. Of course it’s inspired a couple of future road trips.
A couple of tips from the trip: We overnighted at the Best Western in Pendleton, Oregon. This is at least our third stay. Alan and I like the location, you can walk across the street to a Shari’s for dinner. And it’s just far enough away from the hustle bustle of the Interstate.
My last road trip tip for this week: If you’re thinking about an off-the-beaten-path drive or maybe your travel feet are itching to explore a four-wheel-drive trail, check YouTube for a current video of the route. In the West, especially, that trail or road may include a lot of past fire damage. Alan just eliminated a want-to-drive trail after we watched a video of it. Driving for hours through a burnt forest is not for us.
