My Itchy Travel Feet | The Baby Boomer's Guide To Travel

Trying Out New Travel Products

by Donna Hull on 2009/09/03

While Alan and I are sailing on our upcoming 52-day Regent Seven Seas cruise from Vancouver to Singapore, we’ll be trying out eight products to make baby boomer travel easier, entertaining and more productive.

  • The Luggage Club. Instead of hauling luggage through the airport, hoping it arrives with us, we’re shipping our luggage. Will the bags be waiting for us in our cabin when Mariner sails out of Vancouver? I’ll tell you in November.
  • Kuru Footwear. I had planned to review these lightweight hiking shoes in August, after trying them out on a desert hike. But, if you read my Staying Healthy on the Road post, you know that I’ve been sick. What I didn’t tell you is that my illness turned into pneumonia, so no August hiking for me. I’m anxious to try these anatomically correct shoes on my Alaska cruise excursions. They sure were easy to pack.
  • Balanzza Digital Luggage Scale. I’m not usually a shopper but we’re headed to a couple of shopping paradises on this cruise itinerary. How will I know if my luggage is overweight? I’ll be packing a digital luggage scale. Will I need to buy an extra piece of luggage? You’ll find out.
  • High Sierra Backpack. Hertz provided this backpack to all the travel bloggers who attended Travel Blog Exchange in late July. Alan thinks it will be perfect for hauling his camera gear. Drats, I wanted to use it.
  • a Rotten Person Travels the Caribbean by Gary Buslik. I’ll need some bedtime reading. This humorous book on cruising the Caribbean should be entertaining.
  • Waltzing Australia. Alan and I are planning a cruise in 2010 that starts in Sydney. We’ll probably go early to explore Australia. Reading about Cynthia Clampitt’s extended journey down under should help us prepare.
  • Simplify Photo software for IPhone and ITouch. In case you didn’t know, I’m a wannabe techie. This software claims to easily synch photos between my ITouch and Macbook laptop. I’ll let you know.
  • Panasonic DMC -TS1D. Alan and I bought a new digital camera. We’ve been looking for a waterproof camera. But we also wanted a pocket-sized camera that we could carry to dinner at night, on the ship, for photographing friends. And I needed a video camera so that I can entertain you even more at My Itchy Travel Feet. Guess what? We found a camera that will do all three plus upload the videos to YouTube. We can’t wait to try this one out.

In November, I’ll be reviewing all eight products here at My Itchy Travel Feet. Some of the posts will include contests. Stay tuned.

Do you have a question about any of the products that I’m trying out? Post a comment to ask. I’ll find the answer.

Donna: I'm looking forward to your reviews, for sure. And seeing those hiking shoes, I WANT them, already. As to extra luggage, I have a fold up flat amazing large capacity bag tucked in the outer pocket of one of my roll-ons. It is always there for "shopping emergencies."
    Bon Voyage, and happy testing.
