My Itchy Travel Feet | The Baby Boomer's Guide To Travel

Cruising from Vancouver to Singapore

by Donna Hull on 2009/09/09

Baby boomer travelers, want to keep up with us while Alan and I sail on a 52-day cruise aboard the Regent Seven Seas Mariner? I know you’ll be curious about our ports of call, which include Alaska, Siberia, Japan, S. Korea, China, Hong Kong, Viet Nam, Thailand and Singapore.

  • Starting the week of September 14, 2009, I’ll be reporting about the ports of call plus my overall cruise experience for Luxury Cruise Bible’s blog. Look for the weekly “Dispatches from Donna.”
  • On Twitter, I’ll be live tweeting about the cruise using the hashtag #52days. My Twitter handle is @DonnaLHull.
  • Also, I’ve kept a personal travel journal for many years on TravelBlog.org. You’re welcome to take a look to see what Alan and I are up to.

In the meantime, life will go on at My Itchy Travel Feet. I’ll be bringing you the usual mix of travel experiences and advice. You won’t see much about this trip until November or December; although, I’ll probably sneak in a few Vancouver to Singapore posts just to keep you on your toes. If we master our new Panasonic video camera, you might see some real action on My Itchy Travel Feet.

Want to ask a question about our trip? Post it in the comments section. You know I’ll answer.

  • I have never been on a cruise - always thought that I would feel trapped aboard a ship or really dislike the need to be back on board at a certain time. But if I DID take a cruise, this is the type of trip I'd do. I'm looking forward to reading all about it.
  • Barbara,
I assumed that cruises would be the way you describe. Yes, there are
time limitations but the actual cruise and itinerary are quite
liberating. Not to mention the things you see while at sea that you
would never view otherwise. Tonight, we saw a bald eagle plus whales,
dolphins and a beautiful fjord. A magical event.
  • I've enjoyed your Tweets so far. I've been on 2 cruises and enjoy them - they can be a great way to travel if planned well...but I think you've got that covered!

That cruise sounds like a lot of fun - you'll see so many places, hoew will you keep up. Looking forward to seeing some of those videos too - I'm just getting into Video big-time and finding it a lot of fun, if challenging technically. You can find some 'how to' posts relating to producing video on my blog

Hey Donna - looks like a great adventure! When and where will you be in Vietnam? I live in Ho Chi MinhCity, but am leaving soon! If you are near HCMC, definitely let me know!

Oh Donna I am so excited to read about your wonderful experience on Mariner!!! We board for Dec 20 sailing thru the Panama Canal and are counting the days! Our first Regent experience was on Voyager in Aug 08 in the Baltic and it has spoiled us for any other cruiseline. We can only hope we love Mariner as much as Voyager and it appears we won't be disappointed!!!
Thanks so much for your blog.....almost able to feel like we are there with you!
    Happy Cruising....

For sever years I've been thinking about taking a dream vacation. I've been going through the alternatives and spending it on carnival cruise ships sounds like the best way to do it. I'm looking forward on reading more about your experience.
