Does this photo from Hamilton, Montana’s Saturday market look familiar to our baby boomer readers? That’s right, I used it for last year’s 4th of July Saturday’s scene.

Why am I posting it again? Because it’s my favorite photo depicting small town Independence Day celebrations — the kind that will be happening across the U.S. this weekend.

Our Bitterroot Valley holiday weekend started in Stevensville at last night’s Stars, Cars and Guitars — a vintage car show that included musical entertainment. Today (Saturday) Alan and I are headed to the Hamilton Farmers Market for produce, crafts and more music, but that means we’ll be missing the markets in Corvalis and Stevensville.

After rushing home to put our groceries away, we’ll run back out to catch the rodeo at Bitterroot Glory Days in Hamilton – we missed yesterday’s parade but there’s still time to enjoy rodeo events and the cowboy poetry reading.

Of course I need to start cooking my dish to bring to the Stevensville Picnic on the 4th – you bring the side dishes and the Stevensville Civic Club provides the meat. Then we’ll end our Indpendence Day celebrations with fireworks at the Hamilton Fairgrounds.

Whew! There’s a lot going on in the Bitterroot Valley of Montana. You should see what’s happening next weekend.
