What is it about the South Pacific that calls our name? Could it be the warm, tropical waters and relaxing sea days? Or could it be the fun we have on favorite South Pacific cruise excursions like swimming with stingrays in French Polynesia? Whatever it is, Alan and I are answering the call — again.
This week, we’ll begin our 4th South Pacific Cruise and this one is a doozy. For 64 days, Silver Spirit will be the luxurious home to our boomer adventures. The journey is a Silversea Cruises Grand Voyage known as Southern Cross 2015. And this Grand Voyage starts out in style with a gala event and night’s stay at the Montage Beverly Hills. Ooh-la-la. (Do you remember how much I loved the Montage Kapalua Bay?)
What do you think of our itinerary that includes 64 days and 29 ports?
Marquesas Islands: Nuka Hiva
French Polynesia: Rangiroa, Moorea, Papeete, Bora Bora
Cook Islands: Rarotonga
New Zealand: Bay of Islands, Auckland, Tauranga, Napier, Picton, Akaroa, Dunedin, Stewart Island, Milford Sound, Dusky Sound
Australia: Melbourne, Tasmania (Burnie and Hobart), Sydney, Brisbane
New Caledonia: Noumea, Lifou
Fiji: Lautoka, Savusavu
Samoa Islands: Apia
Kiribatu: Fanning Island
Hawaii: Kaui, Oahu, Maui and the Big Island
By now, you’d think that we would have visited any South Pacific port worth seeing. But one reason Alan and I chose this itinerary are the new-to-us ports, including Tasmania and most of the New Zealand ones. We’ll also be checking items off our boomer bucket list on visits to Milford and Dusky Sounds and Tasmania.
Alan and I are also looking forward to relaxing days at sea, some spa time and the guest lecturers onboard not to mention those 11 formal nights. Yes, we like to get dressed up and dance the night away.
Would you like to follow along? We’ll be posting real-time photos and reports on the My Itchy Travel Feet page on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter. Be sure to look fro the hashtag #southerncross2015. And, of course, there will be articles about our trip published here at My Itchy Travel Feet as time and Internet allow.
Just so you know, this grand voyage is on our own dime, although Silversea has kindly offered some cruise excursions and several dinners at Le Champagne, the only Relais & Château restaurant at sea.
