On this Thanksgiving Day, I’m one baby boomer traveler who has much to be thankful about. Healthy family, fantastic travels, handsome traveling companion (who also happens to be a great photographer and husband) plus the freedom to follow my writing passion, how could I not be thankful?
To show my gratitude, I’m participating in Passports with Purpose. Each holiday season, four travel blogging powerhouses, Beth Whitman, Pam Mandel, Debbie Durow and Michelle Duffy, combine forces in an effort to raise money for a worthy travel cause. This year’s recipient, American Assistance for Cambodia (an independent non-profit organization), provides educational assistance by building schools in rural Cambodia. Passports with Purpose intends to raise $13,000 this year, which would pay for the construction of one school. One hundred percent of the proceeds from donated prizes and raffle ticket entries will be used towards this AAfC project.
To raise the money, Passports with Purpose will host a drawing from Nov. 30 to Dec. 21, 2009. Members of the travel blogging community have solicited or provided prizes with a value of $75 or more. I’ve teamed up with Kuru Footwear but you’ll have to visit My Itchy Travel Feet on Monday, Nov. 30, to find out about our super prize offering.
So, baby boomers, why am I telling you about this project? Starting Nov. 30, I’m inviting you to visit the Passports With Purpose site to browse the prizes. For each $10 in donations that you make to AAfC, you will will be entered to win a prize (or prizes) of your choice. Once again, the fundraiser begins on November 30 and closes on December 21, 2009 and all proceeds go directly to AAfC.
Oh, one more thing that I’m thankful about. My children were lucky enough to attend excellent public schools. Their education has allowed them to graduate from college, seek higher level degrees and pursue their career choices. I wish the same for every child.
Maybe you’ve visited Angkor Wat on a baby boomer adventure in Cambodia. Perhaps you have strong feelings about the value of education. Whatever the case may be, I hope you’ll participate in Passports With Purpose along with me.

Excellent, I know I'm right up on the deadline but will be participating also.
Donna: You can bet I'll be bidding on your prize, and I'll bet you'll want to bid on at least one of mine. I'm so happy to be able to do something for Cambodia children all these years after I visited there.

Vera Marie, I'll be checking A Traveler's Library on Monday to find out about the two great prizes that you are offering. Yes, I'm sure that I will be bidding on several from the prize list. Sure hope I win this time.

Great, Anil. Contact Passports With a Purpose right away. I'm sure they'll be happy to add your prize.
An excellent goal. Of all the SE Asia countries I've visited, Cambodia seems the most anxious for assistance. Passports with a Purpose sounds like a great program.
I put out a tweet on this, as it seems like such a great cause.
