Beautiful Matukituki River Valley, New Zealand
Is a jet boat ride part of your boomer travel memories? Was it all about the thrills of spinning to a complete stop in the middle of a shallow river or darting here and there as the captain chose the best line? When Alan and I experienced a jet boat tour with Wanaka River Journeys in Wanaka, New Zealand, we discovered that jaw dropping scenery was part of the package. As our jet boat skimmed its way up the Matukituki River threading a path up the braided river, the mountains seemed to fold onto one another revealing one beautiful scene after another. We couldn’t click off the photos fast enough. It’s one of our favorite New Zealand road trip memories.

We never did any jet boating during our trip to New Zealand, but we did do a 4 day, five night hike on the Milford Track in Fiorland National Park on the South Island. It was spectacular—the high point of our trip and within the physical capacity of moderately fit Bay Boomers.
