My Itchy Travel Feet | The Baby Boomer's Guide To Travel

Bring along the QuikPod Explorer II on your next trip

2013/05/16by Donna Hull

Has this happened to you? At the turn-around point in the hike a mountain looms behind you decorated with snowy peaks and gushing waterfalls. You’d like to take a photo with you in the scene to prove to friends that “yes, I did hike that challenging trail in Glacier National Park.” Looking around, you realize there’s no one to ask to take the picture so the opportunity is missed. Or, you pull out the QuikPod monopod that you tucked inside your backpack, extend it, attach the smartphone adapter, place the iphone or smartphone into the holder (remember you’re traveling light) and take your own photo or video. How cool is that?

Quik Pod Explorer II

QuikPod Explorer II comes with carrying bag, hiking clip, wrist strap and more

I’ve been practicing with the QuikPod EXPLORER II and Mobile – Smartphone Adapter (priced at $59.84 on Amazon) so that I can use the monopod on our upcoming road trip to Vancouver Island. Here’s what I like about it:

  • Folds up into a small carrying bag making the QuikPod easy to transport
  • Built-in mirror guarantees that you are in the shot
  • Assembles quickly so that you don’t miss that shot (the sunset won’t stay in the same spot forever)
  • Waterproof construction (we’ll be using with our waterproof camera for cool underwater shots and videos)

Let me show you how it works (if you can’t see the video, click here: QuikPod Explorer II video review)

Now that you’ve seen it in action, what do you think of the QuikPod Explorer II with Mobile adapter? Would you like to win one? Here’s how:

We have a Europe vacation coming up in September and this would be perfect. I would use it in Germany, Luxembourg, Belgium, France, Netherland and the Czech republic. Keeping my fingers crossed :)

What a handy idea. I’m always accosting strangers to take photos for me (I offer to return the favor, of course).

That’s a great looking device. I could really use that on my upcoming trip to Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Afghanistan, and Uzbekistan. If I don’t win, I might have to buy one!

I need this! I’m traveling to Ireland, and the thought of not having to ask people to take my picture is fantastic. Besides, sometimes people take terrible pics anyway!!

Wow – that is so cool. I would use it on our travels to Japan this summer, for sure.

It is always awkward AND inconvenient to ask people to take pictures of yourself, so this would be a help anywhere! My husband always covers the lens with his fingers, so maybe this is a cahnce to get a good shot of myself!
It is also extremely cool that you can use it with an i-phone too!

I’d take photos at the lake.

I have to chuckle and be very honest. When my husband and I travel, if we’re lucky, we come home with one or 2 photos of us in a pic. When my brother and his wife travel, every single shot has one or both of them in the photo. It’s a different mindset, I guess. I had to read through your post a couple of times to understand what it does. ;-)

I would use this anywhere I travel. Should could’ve used this on my recent trip to San Francisco, as no one could get a got pic of us! Would definitely use on our trip to Peru!!

Looks like a great tool. Unfortunately, I can’t claim any exotic destinations coming up, but I could certainly use it on my neighborhood walks in Tucson, which seems exotic if you don’t live here, I guess.

Yay! Just under the deadline. I take a TON of photos around here (for both myself and that ubiquitous Old Mission site I’ll be launching sometime in the next decade), so this would be a great addition for that venture.

I would use it to take pictures of my family when we get up to the top of some of the mountains we climb. No one around to take our picture.
