Beach scene at Pago Pago, American Samoa

When cruise ships stop at Pago Pago, American Samoa, boomer travelers won’t find many excursions to choose from, especially if there is limited time in port. Tourism infrastructure on the South Pacific island is minimum, with even independent choices on the slim side. But that doesn’t mean you should hang around the port browsing the handicraft booths. Alan and I enjoyed a Seabourn cruise excursion that involved a school bus ride to American Samoa’s scenic spots. A light breeze drifted through the open windows of the un-airconditioned bus providing a pleasant ride. It was much better than shopping on the dock in the sweltering heat.
