Alan has always been a fan of rugged Oregon beaches — until I introduced him to the low country beaches off the coast of South Carolina. Now, our favorite baby boomer beach escape is Kiawah Island.
We’re not the only ones who appreciate this wide, hard-packed ten miles of sand on the Carolina coast. This week, Dr. Beach announced his 2011 list of America’s Best Beaches. Kiawah Island’s Beachwalker Park is #7 on the list.
While this sunset photo is not technically at Beachwalker Park — that’s a mile or two down the sand — it proves that the entire beach at Kiawah is one to be admired for pristine surroundings, unaltered sand dunes and swim-able waters.
