Saturday’s scene: National Public Lands Day

2012/09/28by Donna Hull

Hiking to Bullhead Lake with Road Scholar

Did you know that today is National Public Lands Day? In celebration, admission is free to all of the U.S. National Parks. But, you can do more than simply visit a U.S. outdoor treasure. Join more than 170,000 volunteers at over 2,100 sites across the U.S. as they plant trees, perform trail maintenance and participate in a host of activities to maintain and restore our natural assets. It’s not too late. Check out this map for volunteer opportunities in your state.

Have you volunteered on National Public Lands Day? Post a comment to share your experience. After hiking¬†in Glacier National Park with Road Scholar, Alan and I have an increased appreciation for public lands. We’ve already marked next year’s event on our 2013 calendar.
